Your parent’s house — can determine where you go to college. NPR’s genius Shankar Vedantam makes it clear.
Sharon Van Etten Perform At World Cafe
Van Etten seems to be everywhere in the wake of her excellent new album, Tramp. Hear her demonstrate why during a performance at WXPN’s World Cafe Live. Thanks WXPN
KQED’s new iPhone app looks extremely rad so far. I’ve had issues with streaming via NPR’s app, so we’ll see how this one works! Yeah public radio!
Donating members of KQED can "turn off" pledge drives
I think this is a brilliant idea! The idea that, just like I can for apps on my phone and computer, turn off ads by donating to my local public radio station, is one that I think is a natural progression for radio, and is sure to be pleasing. I don’t think anyone particularly enjoys the pledge breaks, especially given their length and how repetitious they tend to be. I certainly would be willing to donate $45 to turn off pledge drives from my local public radio station, and forego the branded tote bag (I love you guys, but for me, the pledge-free programming is worth more than the bag).

Heard this story on NPR this morning. LOVE this description of San Francisco. Very charming.
“But this is San Francisco, the land of mist and honey, a city where we can wear sweaters any day of the year, where even the hottest of days finds salvation in the cascade of fog over the Twin Peaks. We live on a peninsula separated from the mainland by a beneficent marine layer as charming as a mystery novel. Like Camelot, the winter is forbidden ‘til December and July and August may not be too hot.”
